WASHINGTON http://www.montrealcanadiensteamstore.com/adidas-david-schlemko-jersey , May 28 (Xinhua) -- George Pataki, the former Republican governor who led the state of New York during the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, announced Thursday that he was running for the 2016 presidential race.

"It's time! Join me in the fight to build a stronger America!" Pataki tweeted shortly before the announcement gathering in the New Hampshire town of Exeter, which claimed to be the birthplace of the Republican Party.

"To preserve and protect that freedom that this morning I announce that I am a candidate for the Republican nomination for president of the United States," Pataki said during a speech in Exeter. He also promised to "repeal oppressive laws like the ObamaCare."

He stressed the importance of unifying the country, recalling how Americans worked together to overcome the trauma of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

Pataki first announced his White House bid in a campaign video released Thursday morning. The Republican, who won the governorship three times in a heavily Democratic New York, served as governor from 1995 to 2006.

It marks the first White House bid for Pataki, the 69-years-old who supports conservation, same-sex marriage and gun control.

Pataki becomes the eighth to jump into the crowded ring of Republicans running for the White House, a day after former U.S. senator, Rick Santorum, announced his presidential bid.

The 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) started its closing session Tuesday morning, at which a new CPC Central Committee and a new Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) will be elected.

Xi Jinping presided over the closing session.

More than 2,300 delegates and specially invited delegates are expected to pass resolutions on the report of the 18th CPC Central Committee, a work report of the CCDI and an amendment to the CPC Constitution.

At least 8 percent of nominees for candidates for members and alternate members of the 19th Central Committee of the CPC and candidates for members of the CCDI have been voted off in preliminary elections in the past days.

Discussions of 34 delegations on the report to the 19th CPC National Congress, delivered by Xi on behalf of the 18th CPC Central Committee at the opening of the congress, were open to journalists at designated periods of time.

More than 3,000 journalists covered the congress. Among them, 1,818 are from overseas including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, 6.7 percent more than the 18th CPC National Congress. Foreign reporters come from 134 countries, 19.6 percent more than the previous congress.

The five-yearly congress, which opened on Oct. 18, was held during the decisive stage when China is building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and at a critical moment as socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era.

The CPC has more than 89 million members.

DOHA, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- The economic sanctions imposed on Qatar by the Gulf states violate no World Trade Organization (WTO) agreement, according to a United Arab Emirates (UAE) official.

"The sanctions imposed by the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain did not contradict the agreements of the WTO," Juma Mohammed al-Kait, an assistant undersecretary in the Economy Ministry, was quoted by UAE state news agency WAM as saying late Tuesday.

Al-Kait also said the boycott complies with articles 21 and 14 of the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS), which allows such moves in the case of security exceptions.

Qatar filed a wide-ranging complaint at WTO on Monday to challenge the trade boycott by Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain.

The three boycotting countries, along with Egypt, severed diplomatic ties with Qatar on June 5, accusing the latter of financing terrorism and interfering in other countries' domestic affairs, which Doha has repeate.
